Governance Structure: The Utah State Library is a Division of the Utah
Department of Community and Culture.
The director of the Division is apointed by the
Executive Director of the Department with the
concurrence of the board. The board is composed
of nine members, of whom four represent the
following agencies:
the State Office of Education;
the Board of Control of the State Law Library;
the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel; and
the Utah Sustem of Higher Education.
Of the five remaining members, two must be appointed
from rural areas. The board's authority is essentially
confined to planning and policy. Fiscal and admininstrative
authority is controlled by the Department of Community
and Culture
